Quiet PCs update

We are currently offering a variety of quiet options on our custom-built systems. There are various levels to which we can go depending on how quiet you want your computer to be. There are new fan-less options for power supplies and CPU coolers, though the fastest PC's and those using acoustic cases will still need one or two low-rpm case fans. We are still working on low-noise solutions for optical drives and hard disks, though an acoustic case will generally significanly mask most of the hard disk noise. Please ring or email for details.

Notebook prices are falling virtually every day, contact us for the latest prices

We are offering notebook computers from a number of different suppliers and name brands, including Sony, Toshiba, and Acer. IPC and Fortune notebooks can be custom configured, so contact us for a quote. For musicians, we are also now supplying a variety of add-on USB midi ports and sound cards. Email us for details.

X-Cube systems

We have recently been asked to build a system based on AOpen's X-Cube small form factor barebones. While they have limited internal expansion capabilities, they come fully featured, with a variety of ports for external expansion. The best thing about them is that they are remarkably quiet. There is a brief burst of fan noise from the CPU at start up, but that stops after about 15 seconds, then the subsequent noise comes from disk drives, which is negligible except when using the optical drive for data when it spins up to maximum speed. The systems also come with optional radio and TV tuners, as well 5-in-1 memory card readers. When configured with a wireless keyboard and mouse, a large hard disk, a DVD-RW and a large TFT display, it becomes a very attractive space-saving multimedia appliance suitable for the sitting room.

Even more notebooks, (and other bits)

Due to an increasing number of enquiries for second hand systems, especially notebooks, we have sourced a number of suppliers of refurbished systems. From the best of these, we can get factory refurbished Dell, Toshiba, Acer and Samsung notebooks which are like new, but at a significant reduction from the list price. Prices vary widely depending on specs, but there are some highly desireable Acer notebooks often starting at around 549.00 GBP (excl. VAT and delivery). Of course there are some lower spec desktops and notebooks that are significantly less expensive.

What is factory refurbished? This varies, but generally they are computers that have been returned faulty and have had the faulty parts replaced by the manufacturer. They are then cleaned up and restored to "as new" saleable condition. In the case of the Acer notebooks, they are then sold at a discount price with a full manufacturers warranty as if they were new (except for batteries which are 90 days).
